dom (ili cottedzh), sostoyaschiy iz dvukh polovin

It is very common to see, in Russian-language classified ads, a sentence like «продается половина дома по улице …, etc.». Normally, such type of construction will be chosen in order to house two different families. See my dictionary results below. I would not recommend «сблокированный дом», because it sounds too technical.

As an example, your sentence can be translated into Russian as following:

Этот коттедж достаточно стар, однако с архитектурной точки зрения ничем особенным не отличается. Похоже на то, будто первоначально он состоял из двух маленьких половин.

Explanation:
Посторонние люди живут в доме под одной крышей, разделенном внутри стеной. К ним разные входы со стороны фасада. Жилые площади могут быть чуть разными и, соответственно, разные налоги на недвижимость. Газон перед домом общий. Сад позади дома разделен забором. Независимое отопление и электроснабжение.
