English term or phrase: for natives with good sence of humour
"Ah well, he sighed inside as he swung out of the bed, I had better be ongoing. First
snide joke of the day. Well done."
Whatґs so funny?
Russian translation:уж лучше бы это не кончалось
Ah well, he sighed inside as he swung out of the bed, I had better be ongoing. First snide joke of the day. Well done.\"
Ну и ладно, - вздохнул он, выползая из постели, уж лучше бы это не кончалось. Первая подленькая шутка дня. Неплохо сработано.
Another version is \"уж лучше бы я был следующим номером (завтрашней серией)\". It is like in the following history
\"I had better be ongoing\" - thought in the air a man falling from 15th flour.

выкатывайся я, пожалуй-ста/ ну, мне,пожалуй, пара-ша уже( "пора же уже")
A lot of our jokes are based on phonetic semblance of words different in meaning. Also we have to make it sound snide. Otherwise, the next remaark is not justified.
Can't say: "well done" about my variant, but I tried :-). Will write again if I'd think of anything better.
