Explanation:
Ни разу не встречала в научных текстах такой прямой кальки с английского - клеточно-автономный. По сути, автономно здесь не действие этих веществ, поскольку их эффект обязательно опосредован какими-то клеточными механизмами. Автономна клетка, в которой эти вещества работают: их эффект возникает независимо от других клеток. Я бы переводила по смыслу, а уж если хочется сохранить "автономию", то как раз ее бы и отправила в скобки.

... могут действовать как в выработавшей их клетке (т.е. клетка автономна в отношении их эффекта), так и вне ее (без автономии клетки), регулируя...
