Explanation:
Систематика подорожниковых очень запутанная и неустановившаяся (по объективным причинам).
Растением psyllium, или flea seed, могут быть подорожник блошный, п. овальный (яйцевидный, исфагула), подорожник песчаный (индийский). А есть мнение (не единичное), что это все - один вид.

В последнее время появилась тенденция разделить род Plantago на два - Plantago и Psyllium. Эта тенденция уже довольно полно представлена в сети. Среди поддерживающих эту тенденцию - Шипунов, который предложил русское название рода - песочник(http://herba.msu.ru/shipunov/plantago/authoref.pdf).
Идея выделения рода Psylliym, кажется обоснованной, взгляните хотя бы на этот "подорожник": http://images.picsearch.com/is?30914857045.
Другие собирательные названия этой группы видов/вида,которые используются в фармацевтических текстах, - блошная трава и псилиум.

Так что как ни назови все будет правильно и неправильно одновременно.
