English term or phrase: franchisee
Ronald was first introduced by McDonald's Washington franchisee Oscar Goldstein in 1963.

Polzovatel franshizy OR vospolzovavshiysya franshizoy
Explanation:
Franchisee is a company that uses the right - or a licence (franchising) - to produce or sell goods under the frinchiser's trade mark. As all dictionaries offer rather a descriptive definition of 'a frinchisee', but you need to insert a shorter translation, to preserve readability, based on this explanation, the whole sentence may be - absolutely correctly - translated as follows: Рональд был впервые представлен Оскаром Гольдштейном, воспользовавшимся франшизой МакДональдса в Вашингтоне. (either in Washington, or McDonalds Washington left without changes, yas you find appropriate, i.e. just transliterated). For sure in Roman letters: Ronald byl vpervye predstavlen Oskarom Goldshteinom, vospolzovavshimsya franshizoy MakDonaldsa v Vashingtone.

Well, I've been looking for a proper short Russian equivalent for the vord, and this one seems most appropriate, although I still feel somewhat uneasy.

Thanx a lot!

Mascot

Explanation:
Ronald McDonald is the famous mascot of the McDonald's restaurant chain. A franchisee is a person who buys the right to own and operate a certain brand-name business from the franchisor, in this case the McDonald's Corporation. Some McDonald's restaurants are owned by the corporation, but the majority are francised, i.e. they are owned by independent businessmen. Beside paying for the name, they also pay a royalty, or a percentage of total revenues to the franchisor. For this they get ongoing training and advertizing support.
Но как это все сказать по-русски, не знаю.

(Компания-)франчайзер

Explanation:
Paradoxically, my dictionary provides the translation of the franchisee into Russian opposite to that in English (see the text between ** signs in the example below). (I believe 'franchisor' should then be translated as компания - владелец)
Hope this helps.

Franchise -
4) франчайзинг (специальный вид лицензирования, когда компания - владелец известной торговой марки предоставляет другой компании право ставить эту торговую марку на свою продукцию, но при этом получает право контроля за качеством и т.д. продукции компании-франчайзера)

vladelets dochernego predpriyatia na usloviakh franshizy

Explanation:
There is no one-word translation of this word - only a descriptive way.
It can be worded as above or as a version: "vladelts kommercheskogo predpriyatia na usloviakh franshisy". I guess, it is a chain of famous restaurantes, therefore it can be said "vladelts restorana Makdonalds na usloviakh franshizy"

"A franchise is an arrangement in which a parent company, called francher grants permission to a private person, called a franchisee, to market a product or service of the franchiser, using the name and goodwill of the franchiser"
The Volume Library, The Southwestern Company, Nashville, Tennessee

P.S.You can go still futher and use the method of generalization (commonly used in translation ) and omit "na pravakh franshizy", just saying "vladelts restorana Makdonalds" - it will not distort the conveyed message and will fit that piece of text all right.
Sincerely,
Oleg Osipov

владелец ресторана

Explanation:
Персонаж "Рональд-МакДональд" был впервые использован в рекламе в 1963 Оскаром Голдштейном, владельцем одного из ресторанов МакДональдс в штате Вашингтон.

It doesn't sound that the sample text you gave calls for a precise legal definition of a franchisee. When legal-speak is not an issue (e.g. it would be an issue for tax or liability considerations), franchisee and owner are commonly used interchangeably.
