The effort usually conjures up an image of Knute Rockne, the famed Notre Dame football coach, exhorting his players to “win one for the Gipper.”

Мой перевод (draft): Хороший пример тут – знаменитый тренер футбольного клуба "Нотр-Дам" Кнут Рокни и один из игроков его команды, а именно – Джордж Гип, по прозвищу "Гиппер", роль которого в 1940 году сыграл небезызвестный Рональд Рейган в американском культовом фильме Knute Rockne All American, после чего кличка Гиппер надолго закрепилась за Рональдом, а фраза, которой пользовался тренер для мотивации своих подопечных Tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper," (Скажите им, чтобы они собрались с последними силами, вышли на поле и сделали ставку на Гиппера) превратилась в неоднократно употреблявшееся во время его президентского срока метафорическое выражение Go out there and win one for the Gipper (вперед, поставим на Гиппера).

Хотелось бы узнать мнение коллег (с учетом того, что в American English win также имеет значение делать ставки на лошадь). Сам я фильма не смотрел, поэтому есть сомнения…
