Настораживает наличие the перед works. Возможно, the works относится к all work далее по тексту фрагмента. Желательно бы ознакомиться с предложением, предшествующим фразе, приведенной аскером.

Впрочем, допускаю и вариант, при котором под the works имеются в виду не работы, а объекты, на которых они выполняются (или выполнены). Однако и в этом случае необходим более развернутый контекст.
