English term or phrase: to have a tough go of something
Many-many years ago in a book, “Breakthrough to creativity”, by Dr. Shafica Karagulla, a medical doctor, she coined the expression “sappers,” or what has been known [as] “emotional vampires”. It’s a phenomenon that’s been observed how, when two people are in interaction with each other – dear friends, they love each other – and one has been ***having a tough go of it*** – perhaps, in a deep depression, or upset, angry, or perhaps, very needy. And although you might deeply love this person, just spending some time with them, five minutes later, you probably feel drained.
