The Copy Deck is a comprehensive document that contains all static site content and outlines other site content areas. The development of the Initial Copy Deck begins with the creation of the process flows (an IA deliverable). During this time, the Content Architect is gathering appropriate content for the areas outlined in the process flows. The Initial Copy Deck development continues once the static wire frames and the initial version of the Screen Deck (both IA deliverables) have been created and specific content areas have been identified. The Initial Copy Deck incorporates existing content filtration, new content creation and developed strategies for dynamic content. The end result is a document encompassing all written content that reflects any new strategy direction discussed in the Strategy portion of the engagement. This would include producing content from different, client-related sources as well as developing and creating new content based upon direction and parameters set forth in the Strategy recommendations. “Marketing” (i.e., branded), informational and navigational content will be integrated into a cohesive whole. The Initial Copy Deck is presented to the client content decision-maker for feedback and revisions.
Revised Copy Deck
Once the Content Architect has received feedback from the client content decision-maker, he or she will revise the copy deck to assure that it is reflective of both client copy needs and strategy/branding goals. Furthermore, the Content Architect will assure that any revisions are consistent with the site design and architecture, and make any changes necessary to assure this cohesion. The Revised Copy Deck is presented to the client content decision-maker for a final round of revision and feedback.
Final Copy Deck
The Content Architect creates the Final Copy Deck based upon the second round of client revision and feedback. This is the content, presented in context, which will reflect the client marketing strategy, branding, tone and information. The Final Copy Deck is then integrated into the Screen Deck at the end of the Prototyping phase.
