English to Russian translations [Non-PRO]
English term or phrase: best friend, real good friend, very close friend
Not just a common friend or 'droog' but a very special or close friend. A best friend, above all others.
Terry
Russian translation:лучший друг, очень близкий друг, закадычный друг (male)
Explanation:
OR: лучшая подруга, очень близкая подруга, закадычная подруга (female)

Incidentally, in certain contexts it is possible to use the masculine forms even when speaking about a female friend (e.g. "Она мой лучший друг"), to refer to someone who does not simply hang out with you but is truly fond of you and loyal to you.

Your initial answers wasn't what I was looking for but a few people, including yourself were kind enough to correspond with me via email to figure it out. Of those responses you were the first to reply with suggestion of 'Koresh' and that was the word.

Самый лучший друг [the best friend], настоящий/верный друг [real/true friend], замечательный друг [wonderful friend], очень близкий друг [very close friend].

The word "droog" in Russian changes depending on the adjectives you are using, it's the best analog for the English word "friend." The answer here depends on what you are trying to say, so the answeres I gave here - just general answers, of course.

samii luchshii (blizkii) drug or samaya luchshaya (blizhaishaya) podruga

Explanation:
it depends on the sex of your close friend,"samii" is for male and "samaya" is for female. "Samii" is a superlative.

adding to my previous answer...

Explanation:
about the gender comment... There are some words in Russian that are applied the same way to both masc. & fem. genders, and the word "friend/droog" is 1 of them, so when a guy tells a girl something like "you are my best friend", the sentence "ты мой самый лучший друг" (you are my best friend/ty moi samiy luchshiy droog) sounds just perfect, even though generally, the ending is of a masc. gender.
