Насчет киндергартена так и есть, а вот preschool называют все заведение независимо от того, подготовительная группа или нет. В моем богатом опыте (2 детенка прошедшие через
preschool, 1 еще в "киндергартене") так называлось все заведение. Причем названия daycare и preschool часто используются как взаимозаменяемые, никто не вдается в подробности. Потому, думаю, лучше просто назвать это дело детсадом.

Thanks for your comments. However, preschool is usually for children 3 to 5 years old, whereas daycare is for ages birth through 5 years old. My younger one is in a preschool and he had to be three to start.

disagree  Yulia Shevchenko: Если речь идет об американской системе образования, то kindergarten - это именно самый первый класс начальной школы, часть системы обязательного образованпя. Дошкольные учреждения/сады - необязательны и в систему общего образования не входят.
