Star Wars is a very good example. The Phantom Menace was written after the first three Star Wars stories though it is set before their time. They are the sequels (sequelae) to it. So, Hollywood invented a word to describe its relation to them ==> prequel. Prequel = antehistoria, lo que sucedió anteriormente Backstory is not the same as prequel. Backstory is background information that is useful to the writer/author but does not need to be included in the story for the reader/viewer. For example, if I know that my character grew up in the same neighborhood as I did, I have a context that is useful to me in deciding what s/he would do in a given situation. The reader/viewer does not need to know all this, all that person wants to know is what my character will do. |
