English term or phrase:Stands to its credit...
Hi colleagues :)
Doing my translation homework at University. There's a phrase I really can't make out, the expression "stand to something's credit".
Here you are the context (a text talking about British and Spanish pretensions over Gibraltar)
"...Madrid sees British rule as a historical aberration [...] Britain's recognition of the fact may have been belated but STANDS TO ITS CREDIT. Honour calls upon Britain to treat sovereignity as..."
De verdad, cuanto más lo miro, menos soluciones se me ocurren. Todo lo demás está traducido menos esta dichosa frase :)
