Cobertura de Riesgo & Especular

See ref below to this title of a course offered by the American Management and Business Administration Institute (AMBAI):

To 'hedge' (as in 'hedge your bets (apuestos) - the standard English expression) means to 'speculate in such a way that you try to minimise your overall losses', i.e you try and make sure that your losses in one area are covered by gains in another area.

TARGET
Cobertura de Riesgo ('Hedging') es una tecnica utilizado para reducir el riesgo. Si... especula equivocadamente/incorectamente a base de las condiciones del mercado

Translating the entire passage brings up two problems:

1 You'll have to include the word 'hedging' in ( ), otherwise that particular sentence will sound strange (because the Spanish term is far more transparent than the English one - you'll sound silly saying that 'cobertura del riesgo' is... 'reducing risk', if you get my drift)
2. You'll have to translate the 'sense' of 'hedge' within the context of the entire second sentence, given that here 'hedge' means 'speculate' rather than 'cobrir el riesgo' (becuase the implication is that in fact the risk is NOT covered, due to errors in predicting the market conditions).

If you have any difficulty in getting to grips with my explanation, contact me at siulach@ireland.com. Pardon my Spanish - I'm awfully tired!
