English term or phrase:hanging out a shingle
a broker holds himself out to the public as a broker, often referred to as "hanging out a shingle". I'm having problems translating the phrase in inverted commans. Can u help me out? thanx heaps!
Explanation: to hang out one's shingle: abrir uno su consultorio u oficina.(Simon and Schuster's bilingue)
to hang out one's shingle: (Informal): to stablish a professional practice, esp. in law and medicine; open an office. (Webster's).
Tan informal sería nuestro argentino "poner la chapa en la puerta", pero hay una pequeña diferencia de significado.
