Lo he visto muchas veces en los edificios de oficinas de los Estados Unidos: "no soliciting", "soliciting prohibited", etc.

El único significado que da Oxford para esta palabra no tiene nada que ver con este contexto, y para la palabra "solicit" da estos significados:

With the same exact definitions as you have, take a look at letter \"d\" when it is intransitive. Remove \"pedidos\" (\"orders\"), since sometimes one is looking for business via service (e.g., translations).

This is what \"no soliciting\" means - don\'t come around here lookingi for business, or \"no buscar negocio aquí\"
