Explanation:
En el léxico de seguros "underwrite" es "reasegurar", o sea el que reasegura los riesgos tomados por el asegurador primario (ejemplo: LLoyds of London). El "asegurador" es el "insurer".- Aunque a veces se usa underwriter como asegurador, ello depende de como está estructurada la póliza.
En este caso, el contexto mismo distingue entre "Insurer" y "Underwriting Agent".-

Parece que cmwilliams discrepa, drásticamente, como es su costumbre, conmigo y con el AVH y con el Routledge. Lo cual realmente no tiene importancia, lo importante es que el contexto TOTAL sea acorde con las respuestas ofrecidas, y el asker consiga su objetivo. Honni soit qui mal y pense...y tengo 30 años de bancos y seguros detrás, por si sirve de algo.-

Y por supuesto que "underwrite" en un contexto financiero tiene otro significado; estamos hablando de seguros....

disagree  xxxcmwilliams: I'm sorry, but it's simply incorrect to say that "underwrite" = "reasegurar". An underwriter can write both insurance and reinsurance business. I also have experience in the field - with a Lloyd's broker in London.

  -> With all due respect, go to the AVH which, here in Spain, is THE BIBLE, and besides in this context they are clearly distinguishing between "insurer" and "underwriter", so I agree with the second part of your disagree!!!! Thanks for your comment, anyway.-
