En primer lugar el concepto de "Check and Balances" es el que se usa en Ciencia Política, sin embargo la traducción no es "cheques y balances", si no "CONTROLES Y BALANCES" o "FRENOS Y EQUILIBRIOS".

Se refiere a la manera en que está diseñado el sistema de gobierno en los Estados Unidos (pero es usado en otros Estados), y cuya intención fue equilibrar el poder entre -valga la redundancia- los tres poderes: ejecutivo, legislativo y judicial.

Según los glosarios de las distintas casas editoriales se traduce como: "controles y balances" (Scott Foresman, Mc Graw Hill) "frenos y equilibrios" (Harcourt), y la horrorosa "cheques y balances" de TEKS.

Lo consulté mucho y no es un término financiero , es más legal y político (como equilibrio de... )
