English term or phrase: chemically bond / chemical bond
An additive flame retardant is generally a substance that is added to a polymer resin and incorporated therein, but does not chemically bond to the polymer. A reactive flame retardant is one that forms a chemical bond with one or more of the monomers in the chain, and so is incorporated into the polymer resin.
