English term or phrase: clip area
This product created by following these instructions will contain 7 detailed maps covering the XXX area. The NW and NE maps are both generated from DXF format data, while the SE map is generated from ESRI Shapefile format data. The four maps making up the SW quadrant demonstrate the use of a single large data file with additional smaller files used to specify a clip area against that large data file. Click here for a complete description of how map bounds are specified.

It looks like "clip" in this sense refers to "cutting out" sections from several larger map data files, to create a single map of the area of interest. If this GPS system works the way I think it does, this means that you can specify the "clip" boundaries of the map area that you want to see, and it will grab the map data from one or more large data files, to create a map of just the area you wanted. At least, that's what it sounds like.
