English to Spanish translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Education / Pedagogy
English term or phrase:pre-professional programs
referring to A.A. degrees, A.S. degrees, or bachelor's degrees that prepare students to go on to a professional degree program (law, medicine, accounting, engineering, etc.). Would "programas propedéuticos" work?
This is a short track way to get into law school or other professional schools. Generally people go to high school, graduate at 18, then go to university (and graduate around 22). Then they apply to medical, law, ... school and go for another 4 years or more!! (and graduate at 26, if they are lucky). This is the US system. By going taking an AA or AS program you cut out two years of the four years in university, but it is usually not considered as being worth as a much as BA or BS.
