Subsurface se refiere a lo que está por debajo de la superficie de la tierra, no de la corteza terrestre. Debajo de la corteza terreste se encuentra el manto que tiene caracteríscas geológicas diferentes. La corteza terrestre que es donde el hombre realiza su actividad productiva y extractiva (cultivos, estracción de minerales y petróleo, agua, etc.), suele tener varios kilómetros de espesor, engrosándose en las zonas de montaña.

agree  Chris E: Okay, I agree but now we often use "subsurface" (pronounced Spanishly) in our reports as it has become geological Spanglish :)
