No sé si el choque al que se hace referencia aquí es el producido por la crisis mundial del petróleo de 1973-74, o por algún otro acontecimiento político, social o económico particular quizás restringido a Nigeria, pero mi propuesta podría servirte.

Carido, en principio no toda crisis produce choque ("shock"), con lo que si se usara aquí "crisis" se correra el riesgo de perder el significado explícito original de que se produjo un choque.
