English term or phrase:in living memory
The phrase I am translating speaks about a city that was "devestated by a hurricane for the first time **in living memory**." The phrase means for the first time since anyone who was then alive could recall.
Is there a phrase that expresses the idea in Spanish? I saw the possible translation "en memoria viviente", but I am not convinced. I have never heard that before. Any suggestions?
Specifically this expression means that nobody still alive remembers anything of this magnitude, so we need a transl that indicates that time scale. No equivalent expression has arisen, so one of the phrases below wd have to do the trick. But ...
