English term or phrase: in living memory
The phrase I am translating speaks about a city that was "devestated by a hurricane for the first time **in living memory**." The phrase means for the first time since anyone who was then alive could recall.

Is there a phrase that expresses the idea in Spanish? I saw the possible translation "en memoria viviente", but I am not convinced. I have never heard that before. Any suggestions?

no hay ningún ciudadano (de esa ciudad) que haya presenciado un tal huracán (en ella) antes

Explanation:
I think one needs to find a different translation for each context, as I don't know of one that would work in all contexts.
