English term or phrase: Tipstaff
Recently I was interpreting in a case of child abduction at the High Court of Justice. The passports of the child in question and one of the parties had been withheld by Tipstaff and the Barrister was advising the judge about this. I was able to explain to the client the funtion of "Tipstaff" but could not think of an equivalent term. Does this position exist at all in Spanish? Is their a suitable translation?

agree  Richard Boulter: Yes. In English, this office is also called 'bailiff of the court' in most U.S. jurisdictions. In Spanish courts, it also has various names, but this one is pretty clear and generally used.
