Law/Patents
English term or phrase: severability
A provision in a contract that preserves the rest of the contract if a portion of it is invalidated by a court.
Piedad
clausula de separabilidad
Explanation:
These are standard severability clauses/provisions:

ENGLISH
Severability Clause.
If a provision of this chapter or its application to a person or circumstance is held invalid, the invalidity ****does not affect other provisions**** or applications of this chapter that can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and, to this end, the provisions of this chapter are severable.

SPANISH
ARTICULO XXII.
SEVERABILIDAD

FROM

However, that page makes me suspicious, a search only produces 2 references, both the same organisation and 'non-Spanish' in origin. Moreover my legal dictionary doesn't contain 'severabilidad'

I was the previous contributor who translated this as 'terminación' but I was referring to 'severance pay' (finiquito). This is not the meaning here.

The best the law dic came up with was :
'severable contract' = contrato separable o divisible.

I think that's possibly your translation, because your context for 'serverability', is exactly as described in the extracts above. Essentially, one invalid part of the contract does not invalidate the entire contract, hence the contract can be considered as 'separable' or divisible'

I FINALLY found a reliable confirmation- the EU -->

Article 14 Effect, modification, term and ****severability
Artículo 14 Efecto, modificaciones, duración y ****separabilidad

I checked this and found, FINALLY, this!:

Articulo 20.-
