Also, there are a couple of states of the US that are called commonwealths: Virginia and Massachusetts that I know of. So it could possibly be \"estado\" if that is the context.

There is a \"Commonwealth Fireplace & Grill\" company located in Massachusetts. Thus it would be both a brand name and a reference to the state of Massachusetts.
