Le pidieron el carnet de identidad

Explanation:
I concur with BD; your understanding of "getting carded" is correct. But I have the impression that you are a native English speaker and need to know how to say it in Spanish. I don't know that there's a good translation for the phrase, which is somewhat idiomatic. Instead I would change the whole structure of the sentence, as in "They asked to see his identification" ("Le pidieron el carnet de identidad") rather than "He got carded/"
