La primera sugerencia pudiera no ser aplicable al contexto, pero eso debes juzgarlo tú (por ejemplo, si A colocó a B en una situación no deseada pero inevitable, por evitar consecuencias peores). Si es compatible, creo que es una expresión idiomática adecuada al registro original.

Si no la encuentras compatible, sugiero "exprimir", por mantener también un registro parecido al original.

Otra que podría valer, siempre contando con que el contexto lo justifique es "apretar las tuercas", aunque quizá con algún intensificador "apretarle al máximo las tuercas"
