English term or phrase: gross necropsy
I need a translation and an explanation of the term, and in particular, which is the difference between "necropsy" and "gross necropsy". Thanks.

Spanish translation:autopsia macroscópica
Explanation:
necropsy is when you open a dead body to see what caused its death.

gross necropsy is one in which the wounds/ causes of death are large enough to be seen by the naked eye.It means that you can tell the causes of its death just by looking at it.

disagree  Sergio99: Gross means without a microscope. Whether you can tell the cause of death or not, is immaterial; it is the naked eye exam. A naked eye exam of a cadaver is called a gross necropsy. A gross exam of anything means always a naked eye examination of it.
