"atención administrada" or "gestionada" Explanation: Dear Smudge: You've opened a can of worms, as there is no consensus among health care professionals as to what "managed care" means and it has not necessarily been adopted even in other English-speaking countries, though I believe very quickly it will be. It is really a euphemism for, of course, RATIONED CARE. Since this is the level of register and intent in English, I believe we must transpose it into Spanish, hence the "atención administrada" or "gestionada." Obviously you can substitute "cuidados" for "atención" though I believe "atención" is more euphonic. |

Servicios médicos administrados Explanation: I have never found a satisfactory translation for this expression, probably because this type of medical system is somewhat restricted to the EE.UU. I think "servicios médicos administrados" o "gestionados" conveys the idea of a medical system where medical care is managed by an institution or group. I hope it helps |

gerenciamiento privado de la atención médica Explanation: Palomo is right, this is a euphemistic way of putting it. It means that public health care is "managed" by private organizations. There is a lot of discussion about it; most critics say that "managed care" means that costs are more important than patients, and therefore the quality of medical attention goes down. Hope this helps a little. Good luck, Patricia |

Personal experience / Health Administrator |

Just to add my few cents worth.... Explanation: I will simply type what Fernando Navarro (a guy who has earned my admiration in the world of medical terms) has to say about "managed care" "Evitese la expresion "asistencia gestionada" (escasamente informativa para los hispanohablantes) para designar esta moderna tendencia sanitaria que nos llega de los Estados Unidos. Basicamente consiste en la aplicacion de criterios economicos a la asistencia sanitaria, con el fin de obtener la maxima rentabilidad sanitaria de los recursos disponibles. En la mayor parte de los casos puede traducirse por "contencion del gasto sanitario" u otras expresiones similares." Good luck in determining the way to go! ;o) I love this forum I learn from you on a daily basis and for that I am extremelly grateful. Saludos. Maria ;o) Dicc. critico de duas de medicina/F.
