English term or phrase: CD-4 blood count
What does "CD-4" stand for here? Is "CD-4" some type of blood cell? How does this expression translate into Spanish?
Thank you!!

recuento de linfocitos CD4 en sangre
Explanation:
CD stands for "cluster determinant". I haven't seen it translated literally, generally the expression is Spanish is something along the lines of "células que expresan el marcador (o proteína) de superficie CD4"

Cluster determinant (CD): Cluster of antigens with which antibodies react that characterize a cell surface marker.

Cluster determinant 4 (CD4) is the major receptor for HIV-1 and consists of four domains D1 through D4. Domains D1 and D2 are pictured here

The commonest test that we do to measure how well a person can defend themselves against infections (this is called immunodeficiency) is the CD4 count. The CD4 cells are important in organising defences against all sorts of infections. In general the less CD4 cells available the easier it is to catch infections or for viruses inside of you to cause problems.
