Explanation:
sister = enfermera jefe (in hospital)
(Larousse Dictionary)

"There is a phlebotomy service with daily phlebotomy rounds on each ward. Planned ECGs are performed by technicians. Many nurses have extended roles to help with some common procedures such as catheterisation, ECGs etc.
The **night sisters** monitor all telephone calls at night prior to the doctor being called for ward work"

sister= (Br.) a SENIOR HOSPITAL NURSE, usually one in charge of a ward (Larousse Illustrated International Encyclopedia and Dictionary)
sister = (chiefly Brit.) a head nurse in a hospital ward or clinic;
(broadly) = NURSE
theatre = (Br.) an operating theatre = quirófano/ sala de operaciones
Otro saludito, amiga.

-> mille grazie, mio caro amico . Buona sera :D

neutral  MJ Barber: I agree with you they are nurses, but I don't think they have to be 'jefes' - those would be matrons. Nurses are just referred to, addressed as 'sisters'

Explanation:
"Sisters" is a common Anglicism for nurses in general; they do not have to be members of a religious order.
