En ese caso es estado hipnagógico, que es el estado previo al sueño en que se pueden ver imágenes u oir ruidos parecidos a los sueños, pero con conciencia de estar uno todavía despierto. Se llaman alucinaciones hipnagógicas (e hipnopómpicas, que son las que ocurren al despertarse parcialmente).
