El original tiene la muletilla “level” tan criticada en inglés como su equivalente español.

No pongo NIVEL de confianza (¡ese sí!) por no conocer todo el texto.

Sí, yo también entendía que se refería a la operación (intervención quirúrgica). Además, como bien decís, en el texto aparece la palabra "functional" para referirse a funcional.
