"Efficacy End Points

Subjects were instructed to evaluate their symptoms before dosing in the morning (AM) as an instantaneous (NOW) score (within the previous 30 minutes) and as a reflective (PRIOR) score (over the past 12 hours). The evening (PM) score was assessed in the same manner 12 hours later. Symptoms (sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose / palate / throat, itchy / watery / red eyes, and nasal congestion) were scored on a scale of 0–4 (0 = absent; 4 = very severe) and recorded on diary cards dispensed at the screening visit. Therapeutic response was assessed at each study visit and graded jointly by the investigator and the subject on a qualitative scale ranging from 1 to 5 (1 = compete relief; 5 = no relief).

The primary efficacy end point was change from baseline to study end in the mean AM NOW TSS excluding nasal congestion. The AM NOW TSS was defined as the sum of the AM NOW individual symptom scores (ISS) for sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose / palate / throat, and itchy / watery / red eyes.

Secondary end points included change from baseline to study end in the **mean morning / evening reflective TSS** (AM/PM PRIOR TSS) excluding congestion, morning instantaneous ISS (AM NOW ISS) including nasal congestion, and the morning / evening reflective ISS (AM/PM PRIOR ISS) including nasal congestion. Other secondary end points included the investigator / subject joint evaluation of therapeutic response at days 8 and 15."

TSS = total symptom score
