English term or phrase: pesting/pest
Hi there, does someone know the translation for pesting/pest in this context? I´ve researched all glossaries and dictionaries without luck.
I found these sites in English:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1002/maco.1995046...
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pesting

Here is the context paragraph:
- However, at low temperatures, the molybdenum oxide will remain in the surface layer and will therefore disturb the formation of a continuous silicon dioxide layer. This may lead to a continuous consumption of the material (MoSi2) of the heating element. This phenomenon is called "pesting" or "pest". -

Kindest regards

(secuencia/fenómeno) PEST

Explanation:

“PEST” degradation in beryllides, silicides, aluminides, and related compounds

Many intermetallic compounds, although possessed of good oxidation resistance at low and high temperature, fail catastrophically in some intermediate range by degradation to powder — the so-called pest phenomenon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEST_sequence
A PEST sequence is a peptide sequence that is rich in proline (P), glutamic acid (E), serine (S), and threonine (T). This sequence is associated withproteins that have a short intracellular half-life; hence, it is hypothesized that the PEST sequence acts as a signal peptide for protein degradation.[1]

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secuencia_PEST

However, MoSi2 has a few undesirable properties like ‘PEST’ing, low fracture
toughness at low temperatures and low creep resistance at high temperatures.

Tin pest is an autocatalytic, allotropic transformation of the element tin, which causes deterioration of tin objects at low temperatures. Tin pest has also been called tin disease, tin blight or tin leprosy (lèpre d'étain).

Saludos cordiales
