Esther,no conozco otra manera de expresarlo que la que das tú \\\"Cantar/Actuar en playback\\\".
El original creo que encierra cierta mala leche - ¿por qué no dice simplemente \\\"sings his 1984 hit\\\"? - ¿el vídeo es de un concierto cuando se supone que debe cantar de verdad?
Creo que el autor intenta criticar, de cierta manera, al artista, y lo traduciría como:
\\\"....video que presenta al artista cantando (¡en playback!) su éxito del 1984........

agree  MJ Barber: siempre he oido 'cantar en playback'.Another option would be 'doblaje', but that implies he is moving his mouth to SOMEBODY ELSE'S voice, so does not apply here

agree  Refugio: More elegant than sincrolocucion, which would seem to imply a singing along after the taping. Lip sync is, as Alfredo cites, "la animación facial y sincronizada de labios, boca, cara, cabeza y ojos", not singing along. Most music videos are lip-synched.
