Creo que "enturbiar" conserva la metáfora que produce la palabra "sombra".

creo que la frase está mal usada en la frase en inglés, porque efectivamente, como dice Robert, to cast shadows is "poner a tela de juicio" pero dada la frase en general, la expresión no tiene connotación negativa, sino positiva; por lo tanto creo que han dejado su huella... le va bien
