frente de arranque de carbón (la oscura última frontera)

Explanation:
English Term: coal face; coalface
Spanish Term: frente de arranque de carbón. Above in brackets i give my own version (the dark last frontier) on the grounds of my interpretation of your text: the coal-face is the coal-miner's "last frontier", where his life is most at risk but where he earns his keep breathing dust and shortening his life expectations dramatically. The path to it is a long and deep one and if something happens there (ceiling collapses, firedamp blows the whole thing up,...)he's gone, no survivors. So the coal-face is also that place in your mind you may reach at your own expense, it's a dark and unknown place. If you dig deep and get there you may strike gold, that is wisdom, self-knowledge, awareness of your conexion with the Universe, peace and tasty hot dogs. That vague and uncomfortable feeling comes from the fear of being there face to face with your own deep reality, it may be a dangerous place if you don't keep your coooooool. Alright, next time i'll try to be a little more concise... good luck and dig deep :)

Explanation:
I woke up this morning thinking of your question (which is a little worrying too). I'll be short this time: if you want to keep the mining metaphor you may want to use the phrase above but never translate it literally, it won't make sense. Cheers :)
