Explanation: it beats bog fever = it's better than getting/having bog fever. Fiebre palúdica covers bog or marsh fever I believe, as well as malaria. They usually mean malaria when they say marsh fever anyway I think. although of course, I'm not a native speaker of Spanish so may not be helping at all! Good luck anyway. :)
