Despido Explanation: I don´t like me descansaron either. I believe it is spanglish. I am not Mexican, butif it is an employee´s manual I used despido, me despidieron. It would be the correct term and not a slang. Hope it helps. |

despido colectivo/de regulación de empleo Explanation: English distinguishes between: being dismissed/fired for non-compliance being made redundant/laid-off through no fault of the worker. These are referred to as 1. despido procedente/por causas objectivos(dismissal) 2. despido improcedente(illegal dismissal) 3. despido colectivo/de regulación de empleo (redundancy OR layoff) For more info, see this page with these sections, from http://www.weblaboral.net/ct/ct001.htm CONTRATO DE TRABAJO Un desarrollo más elaborado de estos temas y otras cuestiones más complejas, las encontrará en el WEB LABORAL PROFESIONAL ¿Qué es un contrato de Trabajo? lay-off = cesantía Explanation: I hate to tell you this "post-factum", but "lay-off" is not technically "despido" (it implies, or actually denotes, the employee has NOT been FIRED, but rather let go because of low business volume, etc. It does imply he/she may or will be asked to come back once business improves). Therefore a better (in my opinion, THE better) term here is "cesante" for that worker "laid-off" and "cesantía," of course, for "lay-off."
