English term or phrase: cocobolo
Cocobolo is a member of the rosewood genus, Dalbergia. I bought the wood here in Mexico and the seller calls it tampiceran, but nobody else in Mexico that I've talked to has ever heard of tampiceran. My dictionary says rosewood is either palisandro or palo de rosa. Does anyone know what cocobolo is called in Mexico?

Thank you for the reference. It's a very good guide to Spanish woods. I think granadillo or palo negro are the best choices. Palo rosa is the term for rosewood in general. Cocobolo is a type of rosewood. Muchas gracias a todos.

tampincerán or tampinzirán

Explanation:
It sounds, and is, purépecha: "Nombre vulgar de un árbol de buena madera de construcción (brya violacea)"

Btw, I don't suppose that many English speakers would know what cocobolo is either.

Palo Rosa

Explanation:
Although I am not Mexican, I am Guatemalan and trees are named similarly. Palo Rosa is a precious wood often used to make quality furniture. I have never heard the other name.
