CIF Explanation: This is an international abbreviation used in the export business (Cost, Insurance, Freight) and is not translated. It means that the exporter pays for the transport, insurance and freight costos of the goods he is exporting, until they arrive to the customer's warehouse. The opposite is FOB (Free on Board), where the exporter only takes the goods to the vessel (ship or airplane) and the customer (importer) pays for the insurance and the transport costs. Hope this helps! :-) Own experience in the export industry for more than 20 years. |
