Patrulla puede referirse al automóvil, moto, cuatriciclo o bicicleta. También se refiere al oficial que patrulla las calles a pie como dice Rottie.
En Argentina se los llama \"policía\" pero el término usado en las fuerzas policiales es \"oficial\" (de guardia, a cargo, de patrulla, etc,).

Oficial de policía sería el equivalente a police officer, que si no estoy equivocada es el police constable de UK.

Explanation:
o policia distrital que viene a ser lo mismo, al menos aquí. Hay policias que pueden actuar en cualquier lado y otros que solo se quedan dentro de su distrito ya que no tienen jurisdicción en otros.
