Spanish translation:see below
Explanation:
Coating is a generic name for a product. Coatings are used to protect the external surface of the product from wear, oxidation, etc. A coating client is one who purchases this product and if it fails to cover evenly & craters (pocks) it would make the client very cautious about purchasing that product from the manufacturer in the future. Coating is usually done to exact measures. It is expensive and re-coating has other expensive consequences to be avoided.
Examples of coatings: teflon, paint, rubber, vinyl, etc.

In Spanish: Nuestros inversionistas son similares a los clientes que compran revestimientos que no cubren bien y dejan crateres. I hope this helps. Our family has a teflon coating business. Sorry for the long answer.

Literally= "cavidades en una superficie lisa"

Explanation:
"cratering" also "eyefishing" in your text the word customer seems like out of contex :

...to the coatings ? customer ? who has experienced cratering, or the...

I would understand the text as:

"Nuestros inversores son similares a un recubrimiento de superficie que experimento cavidades, ... / crateres ..."

defectos

Explanation:
cráter en español da la idea de una depresión MUY grande y si bien se puede utilizar en sentido figurado creo que para cualquiera resulta exagerado que alguien encuentre "cráteres en un revestimiento" yo emplearía "defectos" ya que no se trata de un texto técnico y la idea es la misma. Por cierto, craterización no existe en castellano. Mucha suerte. GFS
