Is this a reverse way of saying "Don't blame the messenger"?

Why else would you blame the rhymer?

My dictionary gives 'refranero' as a 'collection of proverbs'...

This is a possibility. Another, and since the translation it's a bit long, I would put "refranero", and perhaps a short explanation between brackets.
