English term or phrase: falsify
I'm still not sure about this question. It's for a school's
manual full of laws and regulations.
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY:
placing parent/teacher signature on documents.

When it comes to laws and regulations I'm always afraid to translate words of that nature that are not in the original text. Is it ok to put:
faslificar la firma
even if falsify is not in the original text?

I need your expert opinion.
Thanks!
Gloria
falsificar (documentos) falsear (la verdad, o una situación)
Explanation:
Hi Gloria!
This is what the Oxford Superlex says:

"falsify / "fO:ls@faI / vt -fies, -fying, -fied
a ‹ document / accounts / evidence › falsificar*
b ‹ truth / situation › falsear"

Hope this helps:-)

Terry I'm sorry I don't know what I was thinking.
my question is for the word: placing
Placing parent/teacher signature on documents
I don't know because the book has so many laws and regulations if I should put words that are not there like
falsificar, but how would you translate: placing?
Thanks,
I don't know if you will be able to answer my question but thanks anyway!

Falsificar la firma de padres/profesores en documentos

Explanation:
Dear Gloria,

I think it is perfectly ok, mostly because that's what it means, in the end :) Taken from other "parental" contexts:

... de comida, fingir que duerme o falsificar la firma de un padre como es ... Papá. ¿puedo...?"
Como todos los padres, Bill reconoce que, cuanto más ...

www.alertamexico.org.mx/serpadre.htm - 25k - Cached - Similar pages

... de falsificar la firma, engañando a padres y profesores. Ahora hay que esperar para
saber que solución inventarán las mentes fantasistas de los adolescentes ...

******

And it is SO often used in Spanish :) Ok, it's not the same words as in English but nothing's lost with your "falsificar". Perfectly OK, really.

Hope it helps!

Good luck with the work!

falsificar OK

Explanation:
Hi Glory,

In this case, I do believe it's ok for you to use falsificar to translate "placing parent/teacher names on documents," as essentiallly they're referring to "forged" signatures. You're not stepping out of context or changing the meaning. You're just using a word that best fits the target language. If all else fails, you could call up the client and ask them if your interpretation of this section is ok! Good luck! :)

    Just my opinion again! :)
