  -> In the US it is common (I live in Colorado, have heard it here and in NM), a literal translation of "convenience store".

Actividad IX. ¿Cómo se dice grocery store en español? Pues, es una pregunta un poco problemática porque la verdad es que hay varias maneras de decir grocery store. La palabra bodega se usa en muchas partes de Latinoamérica y por consiguiente es la palabra que debes usar activamente. Pero se oye también el colmado, sobre todo en Puerto Rico y en otras zonas del Caribe. En México se dice la tienda de abarrotes o sólo la abarrotes. En España se oye la tienda de ultramarinos que significa literalmente -del otro lado del mar (océano)- porque en estas tiendas suelen (tend) vender productos o comestibles importados. La pulperia, una palabra que se oye en muchas regiones de Latinoamérica, puede ser un grocery store o, más bien, un general store.
