English term or phrase: or fuel such viciousness
The prevailing theory was that there was a ferocious level of passion to these two homicides, and that indicated some sort of intimacy between victims and killer, a level of familiarity that could not be achieved through casual acquaintance, or fuel such viciousness.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Efectivamente, Joost.

agree  Margarita M. Martínez: Si simplificas, te quedaría: "...a level of familiarity that could not [be achieved through casual acquaintance, or] fuel such viciousness."
